Winston Salem Neighborhood Spotlight – Washington Park

Washington Park is a predominantly residential neighborhood in Winston-Salem located on steep lands overlooking Salem Creek to the north and encompassing some 25 blocks of irregular configuration with a grid pattern in the center. The neighborhood is also known to some residents as Southside, its name until the late 1980s.


The buildings date from about 1892 to 1940 and include notable examples of Colonial Revival, Queen Anne, and Bungalow/American Craftsman style architecture. The vast majority of homes in the area consist of single-family residences.


Washington Park is home to a sizable canopy of large trees that provides lots of shade and makes for a pleasant neighborhood to live. According to Realtor.com, the median sale price was $315K as of May 2021. In addition, the neighborhood hosts four public schools rated good and higher by GreatSchools.


The district was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1992.
