Winston-Salem Neighborhood Spotlight – Holly Avenue

The Holly Avenue neighborhood is a fifty-nine acre and twelve-block area on the western side of downtown Winston-Salem. Developed at the turn of the last century, this urban residential neighborhood is known for its rolling, sometimes steep hills. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2002.

Throughout history, Holly Avenue’s residents have come from all walks of life and income groups and included physicians, factory workers, and many other professionals. Interestingly, Holly Avenue’s residential section is one of the few downtown areas that has remained mostly unchanged from commercial developments. As a result, many of the single-family homes, apartment buildings, and corner stores still feature late-nineteenth and early-twentieth styles.

According to Zillow, the typical home value of homes in Holly Avenue is $235,361, as of April 2021.
